America: The Unappreciated Watch-Dog

The world complains a lot about Americans.

They're quick to call Americans lazy narcissists who rely on big guns instead of peaceful flowers to solve their problems.

      They're mostly right.

The U.S.A. is the world-leader in budgeting its defense and has essentially become the world's unappreciated watchdog. Europeans criticize our exuberant military spending and tell us that we should strive for peace.

That is what we are doing.

And now Europe doesn't have to.

Europe relies on American might to solve it's military problems so they can spend their money on "peaceful things."

Countries like France, England, Canada, Germany, and Australia pay an extremely small fraction of what the U.S. pays in its defense budget. They don't have to because they know that their powerful ally across the sea that they complain about so much, has got their back.

            - Defense Spending Budgets of the World

I'm not going to say that we build a large military so that Europe doesn't have to, because that isn't the case. Europe not having to is an unintended bi-product of our military spending.

Could America benefit from a cut in defense budget? Sure!

I'm just asking the world to please stop complaining about us when, really, we are the ones who have let you pursue your self-proclaimed "peaceful path" with little fear of attack.
