Many times people assume Christians believe in God with a "Blind Faith."
Many times they are right.
Many times they are wrong.
There are many Christians, and I would argue most, that believe in God with a blind faith. But just because some people believe in something with blind faith, it does not mean that all Christians do. Astonishingly, there are those of us who use real science and real logic as arguments for a god's existence. There are many arguments for such but I will focus on one, which I conclude as the biggest evidence or logical reason.
Simply for the sake of the argument, I will accept all evolutionary theories, the big bang theory, as well as most other "scientific" arguments for where we came from.
As logical, reasonable human beings we can conclude that something exists. Right? The keyboard I'm typing on exists. The air I'm breathing exists. You exist. I exist. We all exist. Where do we come from? Well... our parents! But where do they come from? Well... their parents! And so on and so forth... Until we get to our common ancestor with the monkeys. And then we get to small, furry mammals (oh, how cute!) and then we get to microorganisms and whatever was before them... what we like to call primordial soup. So we get a long train of things coming from other things. Well, where did our Universe come from? The Big Bang! That's that. No questions asked. We can go home now. God does not exist.
WAIT! Let's back it up. Scientific analysis for centuries has told us everything must come from something. So, where did the Big Bang come from? What caused the explosion? Everything must come from something. We can only conclude two logical conclusions.
- The Universe has always existed and has no beginning
- Something greater and outside of time created time and the Universe.
I will first prove the first wrong and then give supporting evidence for the second.
If the Universe has always existed and has no beginning it breaks one of our laws we've already decided upon. Everything must come from something.
"WELL, Mr. Blogger, maybe the Universe is the only thing that doesn't need a beginning if we've stated it has always existed!"
You, Mr(s). Reader, have just accepted an idea on the principle of.... shocker alert.... BLIND FAITH. You have absolutely zero evidence that such a thing is possible. That something came from nothing. You simply say something is true because you want it to be true and you can't think of any other way for it to work.
Also, for time to have no beginning, an infinite amount of past occurrences must have happened. This is a logical impossibility.. Sort of how it is a logical impossibility to posses a negative number of something. (I know that analogy doesn't completely line up but it is close)
So, in order to still believe the first one you must think of a logical reason to support it, simply choose not to think logically, or have blind faith because you can't think of another way for it to work.
Ooh! Wait a minute! I have another way for it to work!
My second option is that "Something greater and outside of time created time and the Universe." This is actually a logical concept. If we accept the idea that everything in our Universe must come from something, time itself must come from something. But for it to come from something, that "something" must exist outside of time and not be subject to its laws. Do you get what I'm hinting at? Hint hint! Whisper: The answer is a divine creator... Shhhhh.
"WELL, Mr. Blogger, where does the divine creator come from! After all, everything must come from something!"
Well, Mr(s). Reader, lets examine time. Time is an abstract concept. Time is simply the measurement of cause and effect. So, Time is a measurement of somethings coming from somethings. We've already concluded that the "something" that created Time, this measurement, "must exist outside of time and not be subject to its laws." Therefore, we can conclude, a divine creator is the ONLY thing that does not have to come from something.
Something had to have created our Universe.
That "Something" that is not constrained by the laws of time and that created the massive, massive Universe is a little big something I like to call, "God."
